The Saint James, Kelowna’s Punk Rock Band, Already Making History

Tuesday October 27th, 2009 - Raising almost a million dollars for high school music programs across the country is not enough for The Saint James; they have to go and make a movie about it. The feature film, “200 Gigs”, follows the true story of the band as it prepares and tours across Canada raising funds to combat reduced program funding.

Before The Saint James leave on their tour, they are presenting a free live performance on Thursday November 5th at 3:30pm at The Landmark Cinema Paramount Theatre, located at 261 Bernard Avenue, Kelowna. This is all a part of their fundraising event in which they hope to raise $577, 000 for their Rockamentry.  The Saint James stated, “We wanted to put on a PowerPoint presentation with a twist. We will perform live in the cinema. We feel this way sponsors and investors can experience first hand a Saint James concert the way kids will in “200 Gigs” across the country”. This will be the first live performance to be held in the 430 seat theatre since it was converted to a cinema in the mid 1960’s.

The fundraising event will be filmed and clips will be used in the final edit. Post production for “200 Gigs” will be completed in the Okanagan when the tour comes to a close in July 2010. The film will then have its world premiere in the same room at the Paramount Theatre in Fall 2010. The band will attend and perform at International film festivals to help promote a distribution deal. Invited guests for this exciting event will include potential investors in this film production, sponsors, media, the general public, and most importantly students.

The Saint James added, “We’re so grateful for the help Landmark Cinemas, the Paramount Theatre, and all sponsors have provided to aid in getting the much needed money to the arts and schools. Without the support of the media and particularly the Okanagan film commissioner, Jon Summerland, this would not be possible and we would not be making history at this event”.

There will be 250 seats available free to the pubic on a first come first serve basis. We recommend they get there at 3:30pm sharp!
